NINH BINH ATTRACTIONS
Nestled in the lush countryside of Northern Vietnam lies the picturesque region of Ninh Binh, a true haven for nature lovers seeking tranquility and awe-inspiring scenery.
Upon arriving in Ninh Binh via VIP bus, we quickly checked into our hotel Ninh Binh Hidden Charm Hotel Resort and decided to use the rest of the day to decompress from our Ha Giang loop.

With a full day’s rest, we started our first day in Ninh Binh with a complimentary breakfast buffet spread provided by the hotel. The buffet included a standard Western spread as well as traditional Vietnamese breakfast items such as porridge, banh xeo (crepe like delicacy with bean sprouts, woodear mushrooms, and tons of acidic flavor that you find in many Vietnamese dishes), and as many local fruits as you desire.
BIKE RIDE THROUGH NINH BINH
Feeling refreshed and full, our day began with a sense of excitement as we embarked on a leisurely bike ride through the stunning landscapes of the Van Long Nature Reserve. With limestone karsts towering above and pristine emerald-green rice paddies stretching for miles, the gentle breeze and the melodious sounds of nature provided the perfect soundtrack. As we cycled along the peaceful pathways, we discovered hidden caves, saw local farmers tending to their fields, and even spotted some of the region's abundant wildlife. Exploring Ninh Binh on a bicycle is one of the best and efficient ways to discover the tiny town and remains to be one of our favorite memories and activities in Vietnam. Highly recommend renting bicycles from your hotel or at one of the many nearby rental shops.
Trang An Grottoes and tam coc
No visit to Ninh Binh would be complete without exploring Tam Coc and the fascinating Trang An Grottoes. As you arrive at the dock, you’ll find rows and rows of boats tended by ladies that will take you through mazes of limestone caves, adorned with stalactites and stalagmites that formed mystical shapes. The serene waterways revealed breathtaking scenes of towering cliffs and lush vegetation, painting a picture of serenity that’s rarely seen in our current developed world. The highlight, however, was passing through three mesmerizing caves: Hang Ca, Hang Hai, and Hang Ba. The play of light and shadows on the water surface created a magical ambiance that left an indelible image in my mind. This peaceful ride is one of the top reasons visitors and travelers from all over world come to experience in Ninh Binh.
Discover the Ancient Capital of Hoa Lu
On our second day, we delved into Vietnam's rich history by exploring the ancient capital of Hoa Lu. As we wandered through the well-preserved ancient temples and palaces, we couldn't help but feel a deep sense of awe at the fascinating tales of Vietnamese dynasties. Surrounded by lush landscapes and commanding limestone cliffs, the historic site provided a glimpse into the country's storied past.
Climb the Dragon Mountain at Mua Cave
To end our adventure on a high note—literally—we hiked up the Dragon Mountain to reach the Mua Cave. The panoramic views that greeted us at the top were nothing short of extraordinary. The sprawling Ninh Binh countryside unfolded before our very eyes, with endless rice terraces and striking karst formations extending as far as the eye could see. The sight was a perfect reward for the trek — a sight that we will remember for the rest of our days.
A Place to Reconnect with Nature and History
As we bid farewell to Ninh Binh, we couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude for the experiences and memories gathered over these two days. This tranquil city offers a captivating blend of natural beauty and historical wonders that are sure to captivate any traveler. Whether it's biking through the scenic Van Long Nature Reserve, exploring the ethereal Trang An Grottoes, or immersing oneself in the rich heritage of Hoa Lu; Ninh Binh truly is a treasure trove awaiting discovery.
